Event narrative

KNEW ASOS at Lakefront Airport measured a marine thunderstorm wind gust of 40 mph or 35 knots.

Wider weather episode

A typical summertime pattern was in place across the region, with intense daytime heating and abundant low-level moisture leading to the development of numerous afternoon thunderstorms. The storms were primarily outflow-driven, producing locally strong and gusty winds. One storm produced a waterspout that developed along its outflow boundary over the coastal waters. Another storm generated a severe marine wind gust that was recorded at Lakefront Airport. No damage or injuries were reported.
