Event narrative

Zion National Park reported mud and sand covering SR-9 at the Washington-Kane County line after heavy rainfall. Heavy equipment was required to clear the road. There were reports of numerous washouts in dry washes and slot canyons on the east side of Zion National Park. The USGS river gauge on the North Fork of the Virgin River reported a sharp rise from a baseline of 45 cfs to 869 cfs within 15 minutes. Zion National Park reported high flows on Clear Creek.
