Strong southerly winds developed due to a broad high-pressure system setting up to the east. Many weather stations across the forecast area peaked around 50 to 55 mph, with a few isolated stations topping 58 mph. A peak wind gust of 62 mph was measured by the South Dakota Department of Transportation Mesonet station near Ree Heights, while a 60 mph gust was recorded at the South Dakota Department of Transportation Mesonet station near Andover.
