Event narrative
A tribal leader in Napakiak reported low-lying flooding and coastal erosion on the east side of the village. A tribal leader in Kipnuk noted coastal flooding of low lying areas and some boardwalks. A tribal leader in Tuntutuliak noted that a boat was underwater with water levels still being elevated at 1:00 PM AKDT October 8.
Wider weather episode
A strong North Pacific low moved into the Bering Monday, October 6. A front trailing the low brought strong, onshore, southwesterly winds to the Kuskokwim Delta coast from October 7 to October 8. The orientation of the front was ideal for a large corridor of strong winds streaming from the Bering Sea into the Kuskokwim Delta for almost 24 hours. Flooding and coastal erosion was seen in communities along the coast and the Kuskokwim River.
