Wind gusts were recorded overnight between the eleventh and twelfth of October at Diamond Shoals Buoy. Max wind gust was recorded at 21:40 LT.

Wider weather episode

A rapidly deepening low pressure system off the Carolina Coast interacted with strong high pressure ridging centered in the Northeast which extended down into the Mid-Atlantic. As these two systems interacted, a tight pressure gradient resulted allowing for storm force wind gusts across the Eastern North Carolina Coastal Waters and the Pamlico Sound during the overnight hours of October eleventh through the morning hours of October Twelfth.
