A wind gust of 50 knots (58 MPH) was measured by a trained spotter's personal weather station near Mount Airy.

A strong cold front pushed through the Mid-Atlantic during the late evening hours. Despite only shallow convection with light showers along the front, very strong winds from aloft were able to mix to the surface resulting in scattered damaging winds across northern Maryland and into a small part of the eastern West Virginia panhandle.
