Event narrative

The public and several trained spotters relayed reports of 6+ inches new snow from the evening of the 11th into the morning of the 12th. The peak report was 10.8 inches new snow in the foothills on the north side of Mt Helena.

Wider weather episode

Low-level northeasterly upslope flow at the surface combined with a relatively warm/moist airmass overrunning the cooler surface airmass to result in heavy snow, mostly along the Rocky Mountain Front and into Helena.
