ASOS KCTB Cut Bank Airport, along with Montana mesonet station Mission Lake S both measured criteria gusts (58+ mph) and periods of sustained winds at criteria (40 mph for at least an hour).
Wider weather episode
Upper level ridging building in behind a departing trough was quickly broken down by another trough diving southeastward from BC/vicinity. Increased mid level flow through the night combined with a building pressure gradient to result in brief instances of strong winds/gusts.
