Event narrative

September started with the northern half of the zone in Extreme(D3) drought and Severe(D2) drought south. By the end of the month, the entire zone was in Severe(D2) drought. The Hillsboro Cooperative Observer reported 1.65 inches of precipitation which was 0.32 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Above normal rainfall for much of the region brought some small drought relief to southern New Mexico in September.
