Wider weather episode
Strong to severe thunderstorms developed across northeastern Oklahoma during the late afternoon and evening of the 18th, along and just ahead of a cold front moving through the region. Weak instability ahead of the front, combined with moderately strong wind fields and wind shear associated with an upper level disturbance translating through the Southern Plains, resulted in the development of a supercell thunderstorm that produced large hail up to golf ball size and damaging wind gusts.
