Straight-line winds from a storm moving through Owensboro brought down a large portion of an awning over a shopping center, which fell onto several parked vehicles.
Wider weather episode
A slow moving cold frontal boundary entered into the Quad State on the 12th. Showers and thunderstorms formed on the south side of the front and moved eastward through the region during the afternoon and early evening hours. Mid-afternoon storms blew over an awning at a shopping center in Owensboro, while late afternoon storms produced a line of straight-line wind damage in Ballard County. MLCAPE was around 2000J/kg, DCAPE was 1000J/kg, and effective bulk shear was 20kts.
