Drought — Southern Harrison County, Mississippi
2025-09-30 · Southern Harrison County, Mississippi
Event narrative
D2 drought conditions began to develop from lack of rainfall.
Wider weather episode
Coastal Mississippi entered a prolonged period of suppressed rainfall leading to the development of D2 drought conditions by late September. Annual accumulated rainfall across the local area was near normal through mid-August. The precipitation pattern then dramatically changed from that point through the end of September. Only about 2 inches of rain fell during this 6-week period, compared to the 10 inches typically expected. The main driver of this dry spell was persistent upper level ridging aloft across the region.
