Wider weather episode
Just 24 hours after the last round of storms brought damage to eastern Kentucky, another round of storms impacted the region on the evening of June 18th. A surface low pressure system was located to our northwest, across northern Illinois throughout the day on the 18th, accompanied by a cold front draped across the Mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Southern Plains. A longwave trough was also moving across the region, with amplified SW flow moving into KY and the Ohio Valley. Storms developed throughout the day, south of the cold front, with the front edge progressing eastward, reaching eastern Kentucky by the evening. The storms resulted in one severe thunderstorm warning, which verified with a downed tree report from Lee county - the sole damage report.
