A severe thunderstorm dropped ping pong ball sized hail southeast of Codell in southeast Rooks County around 5:30 PM. This particular storm was among a line of thunderstorms that formed along a weak surface warm front emanating east along Interstate 70 from low pressure in northeast Colorado. Surface based CAPE reached 4,000 J/kg as moisture pooled along the front. While upper forcing was limited, there was just enough energy from a weak shortwave moving east out of northeast Colorado to fire up the thunderstorms.
