Event narrative

A stage 1 water shortage continued for South and Central Maui since September 2024 due to lack of surface water flow. West Maui continued a stage 2 water shortage from 9/4/25 (Stage 1 declared 6/30/22) to (10/31/2025). Upcountry Maui briefly upgraded to a stage 3 water shortage on 10/17/25, then stepped down to Stage 2 in late October (Stage 1 on 9/12/25).

Wider weather episode

Months of below average rainfall have led to continuing severe drought conditions over portions of Maui, particularly the south and western portions.
