An area of low pressure moved south of the area while cold air remained in place across the northern and western Maryland. This resulted in a period of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Snow amounts were generally less than one inch, though parts of western Maryland saw upwards of four inches of snow. Ice amounts averaged around one tenth of an inch, though up to two tenths of ice were reported on the higher ridges in western Maryland and the Catoctins.
