Wider weather episode

West-northwesterly flow in the wake of a potent cold front stationed offshore the Mid-Atlantic allowed for lake effect snow showers and squalls to form during the morning hours of November 17, 2025. Ample moisture in place, coupled with lake induced instability over relatively warm waters on Lake Erie allowed for a band of snow squalls to form northwest of the Interstate 80 corridor. Steering flow pushed squalls over Interstate 80 in Clearfield and Centre Counties, where an initial snow squall was observed in the early morning hours before a longer duration snow squall was observed. Road temperatures just above freezing ahead of the squall allowed for flash freeze conditions to occur with road surface temperatures dropping 2 to 4 degrees within the squall. No injuries were reported.
