Event narrative

The month started out with the western half of the zone in Exceptional(D4) drought with the east in Extreme(D3) drought. By the end of October, the entire zone was in Extreme(D3) drought. The Cooperative Observer at Cliff reported 0.62 inches of precipitation which was 0.33 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Even with a below average precipitation month for Southern New Mexico, the far west did see some improvement from Exceptional(D4) to Extreme(D3) drought while the remainder of the area had no change.
