Event narrative

The northwest portion of the zone started the month in Exceptional(D4) drought with the southeast in Extreme(D3) drought. By the end of the month, the entire zone was in Extreme(D3) drought. The Antelope Wells Cooperative Observer recorded 0.85 inches of precipitation which was 0.12 inches above normal.

Wider weather episode

Even with a below average precipitation month for Southern New Mexico, the far west did see some improvement from Exceptional(D4) to Extreme(D3) drought while the remainder of the area had no change.
