The entire zone started out October in Exceptional(D4) drought and improved to Extreme(D3) drought by the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

Even with a below average precipitation month for Southern New Mexico, the far west did see some improvement from Exceptional(D4) to Extreme(D3) drought while the remainder of the area had no change.
