Drought — Southwest Chaves County, New Mexico

2025-11-01 to 2025-11-30 · Southwest Chaves County, New Mexico

Event narrative

Severe drought remained persistent over the southern two-thirds of the zone, while it was removed elsewhere.

Wider weather episode

November saw a mixed bag of above normal and below normal precipitation across the state, heavily defined by one notable winter system late in the month. With November's climatological precipitation amounts already fairly low, it didn't take much for that one storm to bring above normal precipitation to a southwest to northeast swath across the state leaving the northwest and southeast corners with below normal precipitation. Modest one category improvements were observed over portions of west-central NM alongside some one category degradations for parts of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and southeastern plains. Most of the state saw little to no change in their drought status.
