Wider weather episode
A large, long-period northerly swell moved across the local Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Passages from late Thursday night on October 2nd through October 6th, creating hazardous marine and coastal conditions across the north-facing beaches of Puerto Rico. The incoming swell generated elevated breaking waves, dangerous rip currents, and episodes of localized coastal erosion. Several north-coast beaches experienced periods of high surf and occasional Coastal Flooding near low-lying areas close to the shore, prompting the issuance of Rip Current Statements, High Surf, and Coastal Flood Advisories. Conditions gradually improved as the swell decayed by October 6th.
