A thunderstorm produced wind gusts measured at 50 kts by the mesonet station 1.8 miles east of the Devils River State Natural Area Del Norte Unit.

Wider weather episode

An upper-level shortwave trough and Pacific cold front moved into an unusually moist airmass over South-Central Texas. These features combined to generate thunderstorms some of which produced a tornado, damaging wind gusts, and large hail.
