Event narrative

A public weather station near Gallinas, NM measured a peak wind gust of 65 mph. Another station in Rainsville also measured high sustained winds of 48 mph.

Wider weather episode

A strong portion of the polar jetstream crossed just north of New Mexico with strong winds stretching southward over northern NM during the evening of December 17th and lasting overnight well into the morning of December 18th. High wind gusts of 58 to 65 mph were observed in areas along and east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains down the I-25 corridor. Strong winds just below high wind criteria were also observed elsewhere across the central highlands and eastern plains of New Mexico, including a 57 mph wind gust at Clines Corners along I-40.
