The Cumberland County Kentucky Mesonet site (GRDR) dropped below freezing at 9:25 pm EST on October 23 before recording a low temperature of 25 degrees during the early morning hours of October 24, 2025. The Cumberland County KY Mesonet site is known to be in a sheltered valley, where temperatures often drop off quicker after sunset on clear, calm evenings. More elevated, exposed nearby sites often report notably warmer temperatures.

Wider weather episode

High pressure centered over the Ohio Valley led to light winds and excellent radiational cooling conditions early on the morning of October 24, 2025. Temperatures dropped to at or below the freezing mark across much of central Kentucky. Lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s were common, and this was the first freeze of the season in many communities.
