Winter Weather in Deuel, South Dakota

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that Interstate 29 southbound was closed after a semi rolled over and blocked traffic at the Clear Lake/Castlewood exit. Another vehicle lost control at the Interstate 29 Estelline exit, crashing into a bridge. The driver was pinned and required extrication from the vehicle.

A broad area of light and fluffy snow developed across north central and northeast South Dakota. Observers at the National Weather Service at the Aberdeen Regional Airport recorded a total of 8.6 inches of snow, with 8 inches measured by both the COOP in Pollock and by a resident 5 miles south of Clark. Several slide-ins were noted in the Watertown area, and a semi was tipped and rolled on Interstate 29 near Castlewood. Watertown Fire Rescue performed a vehicle extraction after a half-ton pickup rolled onto its side, leaning over a bridge with the bridge beam trapping the driver near the Estelline exit.
