What the National Weather Service wrote

Large breaking waves surged up the beach and deposited debris in private resident's backyards. The waves also caused water to pool on Kamehameha Highway near Rockpiles.

The wider storm

A storm force low in the northwest Pacific sent an extra large swell towards the Hawaiian islands. This extra large long period swell brought waves up to 35 to 45 feet along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. Surf reached 20 to 30 feet along west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and north facing shores of Maui. The large waves caused ocean water to surge up beaches and inundate roads as well as residents backyards.
