Snow squalls arrived in the Upper Valley during the afternoon of the 4th. At 259 pm the Lebanon Municipal Airport reported visibility falling to 1/4 mile and winds gusting to 33 mph. The squalls lasted about 30 to 45 minutes before conditions improved. Snowfall amounts were generally less than 1 inch.

In the wake of a departing nor'easter, strong high pressure built into the central United States. This drove a strong cold front through the Northeast by midday on the 4th. Along the frontal boundary heavy snow showers and few snow squalls developed as they entered the more unstable air south of the mountains. Visibility at or below one quarter mile, gusty winds, and rapidly falling temperatures through freezing resulted. Key Message: Heavy snow, snow squalls.
