Mesonet station MTBWG Browning (MT DOT) reported a 87 mph wind gust. It also reported an average sustained wind of 61 mph between 10:15 and 14:30 MST. Mesonet station SHBM Browning, and Mesonet station BGRM8 Browning RAWS also reported high winds gusts. Wetzel NE (Montana Mesonet), Mesonet station MTBRN Two Medicine Bridge (MT DOT), Dupuyer N (MT Mesonet), and Dog Gun Lake (MT Mesonet) also reported both high wind gusts and high sustained winds.

Wider weather episode

An upper level ridge broke down, bringing strong winds aloft. A strong pressure gradient and mountain wave activity helped mix down these strong winds along the Rocky Mountain Front.
