Event narrative

Mission Lake S (MT Meso) measured a 75 mph wind gust and high sustained winds of 49 mph between 11:25 and 14:20 MST. Mesonet Station BUFM8 Buffalo Lake E, ASOS station KCTB Cut Bank Airport, and Ethridge N (Montana Mesonet) also measured high wind gusts and high sustained winds. AWOS station KSBX, and Conrad N (MT Mesonet) also measured high sustained winds. Mesonet station MTSWT Sweetgrass (MT DOT), Mesonet station SBSM8 Sunburst NW, and Mesonet station MTVAR Valier Jct 1-15 measured high wind gusts.

An upper level ridge broke down, bringing strong winds aloft. A strong pressure gradient and mountain wave activity helped mix down these strong winds along the Rocky Mountain Front.
