A very potent low pressure system brought widespread strong winds to much of eastern New York on Halloween (October 31), 2025. Widespread gusts of 30 to nearly 50 mph were common especially during the evening and late evening hours. Numerous reports of downed trees were reported to NWS Albany wherein traffic patterns were altered due to lane blockages, especially in Albany County. Some of the impacted roadways within Albany County include State Route 143 in Ravena, State Routes 145 and 81 in Preston Hollow, County Route 411 in Westerlo, State Farm Road and Wormer Road in Guilderland, and Cedar Drove Road in New Scotland. Unfortunately, one death (direct) and injury were caused from this event due to a tree falling on a car in Ulster County. The 77 year old female passenger was killed and the 79 year old driver was seriously injured.
