Event narrative
MT Mesonet SBSM8 Sunburst NW reported a 58 mph wind gust. Mesonet station MTSWT Sweetgrass (MT DOT) also reported a high wind gust.
Wider weather episode
An upper-level ridge broke down Thursday and Friday, bringing strong mid-level winds. This combined with a pressure gradient tightening up brought strong winds to the Rocky Mountain front on the 13th. These strong winds spilled out further east to the plains along Highway 200 corridor on the 14th.
