Elevated flat ice accumulations were generally 0.1 to 0.25 inches across the area with vehicle accidents being the main impact.

Developing and strengthening low pressure across the Great Lakes on December 28th moved across Ontario and Quebec provinces on December 29th. Mild, moist flow accompanying this system moved into cold, dense low level cold air entrenched across northern NY and VT.

Precipitation mainly fell as freezing rain during the late evening hours of December 28th into the morning hours of December 29th. This led to very hazardous driving conditions with numerous vehicle accidents as well as enough ice accretion on trees to cause some isolated to scattered power outages (approximately 10,000) . Elevated flat ice accumulations across VT was generally 0.1 to 0.25 inches with amounts approaching 0.5 inches across the mountain valleys of central VT.

More than 100 vehicle accidents reported by the VT State Police alone.
