Event narrative

A combination of snow and strong winds impacted the county Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Snowfall amounts around 1 to 3 inches were estimated across the county, and wind gusts around 30 to 40 mph were measured throughout the event at Faribault Municipal Airport.

Wider weather episode

A strong low pressure produced a late fall system that brought a round of rain and heavy snow, as well as very gusty winds to the Upper Midwest. The combination of heavy falling snow and northwest winds gusting to around 40 to 50 mph resulted in significant travel impacts, especially across western and central Minnesota where the strongest winds overlapped with falling snow.

The greatest snowfall amounts generally were reported along and north of the I-94 corridor, topping out around 5 to 9 inches.

8.0 inches southwest of Vineland, MN (Morrison).

7.2 inches in Long Prairie, MN (Todd).

7.0 inches in Carlos, MN (Douglas).

7.0 inches in Little Falls, MN (Morrison).
