Event narrative
Intense lake effect snow fell between the Route 11 and Route 37 corridor. Snowfall rates were 3 to 4 inches per hour at times with total snowfall of 6 to 12 inches. Some specific totals include; 13 inches in the western sections of Gouverneur, 10 inches in Morristown and 7.5 inches in Heuvelton.
Wider weather episode
A short, but intense lake effect snow band rotated north into southwestern St. Lawrence county during the evening hours of December 31st and ended shortly before midnight. Snowfall rates in excess of 3-4 inches per hour occurred at times with snowfall totals of 6 to 12 inches mainly west of Route 11 and closer to Route 37.
