NWS Employees reported 6.7 inches in Stony Brook and 6.2 inches in Centereach. A trained spotter reported 7.8 inches in Saint James. The public reported 7.0 inches in Smithtown, 6.5 inches at 1 S Nesconset, 6.5 inches in Deer Park, 6.3 inches at 1 SW Northport and 6.0 inches in Mount Sinai.

Wider weather episode

Advisory and some Warning level snowfall occurred across SE New York. An quasi arctic / polar boundary moved across the region as elongated weak low pressure formed along the boundary and moved along the boundary to the east northeast. The region was on the cold side of the boundary which resulted in accumulating snowfall region wide.
