A quick hitting clipper system embedded within an active stretch of weather for the middle of December swept through southwest Virginia on the morning of the 12th. Snow showers persisted into the middle of the day before activity quieted down as the disturbance dashed to the east. An estimated 2 to 3 inches of snow fell in spots across Buchanan and Dickenson Counties with this transient system, which was noted by members of the Department of Highways.
