Event narrative

Penny size hail was measured as a storm tracked eastward through Cape Girardeau county, with the report submitted via mPING.

Wider weather episode

As a surface low pressure system moved into Missouri, a warm front lifted into northern portions of the Quad State region. Ahead of the front, a SW to NE band of showers and thunderstorms developed, pushing eastward through mid-morning. Penny size hail was reported on the north side of Cape Girardeau with these storms. A lack of instability prevented greater storm potential despite the effective bulk shear of 30-40kts and precipitable water values of 1.1in.
