Cocorahs observers reported 3.8 inches at 0.6 WNW West Orange Township, 3.5 inches in Montclair, 3.5 inches in Maplewood, and 3.5 inches in Verona. The public reported 3.3 inches at 1 W Essex Fells and 3.8 inches at 1 S Roseland.

Wider weather episode

A progressive shortwave from the west overran a cold high pressure system resulting in a significant snowfall across the region. Warm advection aloft was the main driver of the snowfall for much of the event. An accumulating snowfall occurred across Northeastern New Jersey.
