Cocorahs observers reported 4.1 inches at 0.5 SE Malverne and at Massapequa Park, 3.5 inches at 0.4 SE Seaford, and 4.0 inches in Bellmore. Amateur radio reported 4.1 inches in Massapequa. The public reported 5.0 inches in Farmingdale, and 3.5 inches at 1 WSW Plainview. A trained spotter reported 3.5 inches at 1 SW Elmont.

Wider weather episode

A progressive shortwave from the west overran a cold high pressure system resulting in a significant snowfall across the region. Warm advection aloft was the main driver of the snowfall for much of the event. Advisory to Warning level snow fell across Southeastern New York.
