A trained spotter reported 7.5 inches in Orient, and 7.0 inches in Mattituck. A cooperative observer reported 6.2 inches in Baiting Hollow. An NWS Employee reported 6.1 inches at 3 WNW Riverhead.

Wider weather episode

A progressive shortwave from the west overran a cold high pressure system resulting in a significant snowfall across the region. Warm advection aloft was the main driver of the snowfall for much of the event. Advisory to Warning level snow fell across Southeastern New York.
