Wider weather episode
The first snow of the season occurred November 8 as a clipper system interacted with a polar cold-air intrusion across the Northern Plains. Light snow first developed during the early morning hours and continued into the early afternoon. A broad swath of snow from 3-5 inches fell from near Mitchell to Sioux Falls to Spencer. Relatively warm ground temperatures limited accumulations on area roadways with most major arteries clear by the afternoon. There was a report of about 6,000 customers without power in Sioux Falls.
