A cold front moved through the region the prior day with a polar air mass, causing temperatures to plummet below freezing that night. A weak mid-level low that moved through the following morning on the 10th then brought light snow showers. A quick coating to half inch of snowfall was observed on cold and elevated surfaces, with variable pavement accumulation. Due to temperatures in the upper 20s, the snow caused slick sports on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses east of Owensboro, KY that resulted in a few accidents.
