Event narrative

Light to moderate snow fell across Schuylkill County on the morning and early afternoon of December 2, with snowfall totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches across the county. Multiple accidents were reported along the northbound side of Interstate 81, resulting in a brief closure of the roadway. No injuries were reported with any of the accidents.

Surface trough across the Mid-Atlantic continue to progress northeastward during the late evening hours of December 1st and lifting into central Pennsylvania during the early morning hours of December 2nd. Initial moisture was very limited, which allowed for snowfall to hold off and begin during the early morning hours of December 2nd, continuing into the afternoon hours before the trough and better moisture returns moved northeast of the area. As the first widespread snowfall of the season, multiple accidents were reported across central Pennsylvania, closing multiple high-speed roadways for over four hours. No injuries were reported despite the accidents.
