Winter Weather — Luzerne, Pennsylvania

2025-12-13 to 2025-12-14 · Luzerne, Pennsylvania

Event narrative

Snowfall reports were mostly 3 to 6 inches for Luzerne County, except for 7 to 8 inches in the Drums area.

Wider weather episode

A potent upper level trough and associated surface cold front with a clipper system moved across the area during the evening of Saturday, the 13th, through mid morning on Sunday, the 14th. A wave of low pressure developed along the frontal boundary just to the south of our region Saturday night and exited the mid-Atlantic coast Sunday morning. Southwesterly flow ahead of the front advected in plenty of moisture north. In combination with fresh cold air, this led to the development of snow across Northeast PA. The heaviest of snow fell Saturday night into early Sunday morning approximately from 10 PM to 4 AM EST.
