Extreme drought remained persistent over the southern half of the zone.

Wider weather episode

December saw record warmth across a majority of the state alongside below normal precipitation across a majority of the state. However, only a large section of the eastern plains of New Mexico saw an introduction of abnormally dry conditions. The rest of the state saw persistent drought conditions relative to November, 2025.
