Event narrative

Between 4 to 6 inches of snow fell with the highest measured in the northern half of the county. CoCoRaHS observers measured 6.1 inches of snow one mile WSW of Altoona, and 5.9 inches in Eau Claire. Additionally, the AWOS station located at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport recorded visibility of three quarters of a mile due to falling snow which caused slippery conditions and hazardous travel conditions.

Wider weather episode

A potent clipper system moved across Minnesota and Wisconsin on December 9th, 2025. Areas across western Wisconsin observed several hours of snow beginning in the mid-afternoon and persisting through much of the evening. Snow accumulations ranged from 4 to 8 inches of snow. Snowfall rates did become heavier at times, causing reduced visibilities, slippery roads, and hazardous driving conditions.

8.3 inches 6.5 miles NW of Menomonie (Dunn)

7.5 inches 6 miles SW of Haugen (Barron)

7.1 inches 4.4 miles WSW of Knapp (St. Croix)

6.2 inches 3 miles NW of Turtle Lake (Polk)

5.9 inches in Eau Claire (Eau Claire).
