Event narrative

Between 5 to 8 inches of snow fell across the county. CoCoRaHS observers measured 7.1 inches of snow in Knapp, 7.0 inches of snow 2 miles N in Somerset, and 5.6 inches in New Richmond. Additionally, the AWOS at New Richmond Airport observed one quarter mile of visibility from falling snow. This caused slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions.

Wider weather episode

A potent clipper system moved across Minnesota and Wisconsin on December 9th, 2025. Areas across western Wisconsin observed several hours of snow beginning in the mid-afternoon and persisting through much of the evening. Snow accumulations ranged from 4 to 8 inches of snow. Snowfall rates did become heavier at times, causing reduced visibilities, slippery roads, and hazardous driving conditions.

A few of the highest snowfall observations were:

8.3 inches 6.5 miles NW of Menomonie (Dunn)

7.5 inches 6 miles SW of Haugen (Barron)

7.1 inches 4.4 miles WSW of Knapp (St. Croix)

6.2 inches 3 miles NW of Turtle Lake (Polk)

5.9 inches in Eau Claire (Eau Claire).
