A strong cold front crossed the region on the afternoon of November 26th. Behind this cold front, gusty winds ushered in much colder air. A favorable setup for lake effect snow developed behind the passing cold front, with heavy lake effect snow impacting areas east and southeast of both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario through the Thanksgiving weekend.

Some of the notable snowfall amounts from the lake effect snow event include: 23.8 inches in Cattaraugus, 19.8 inches in Ellicottville, 17.6 inches in Springville and 14.8 inches in Wellsville.
