Event narrative

The morning 511 report for the Klondike Highway on the 22nd noted at least 5 inches of snow had fallen between milepost 8 to 12, at least 7 inches of snow had fallen between milepost 12 to the border, and up to 10 inches had fallen to milepost 15. The Moore Creek SNOTEL at 2250ft elevation measured snowfall between 11pm on the 21st and 11am on the 22nd with around 6 inches of accumulation during that time.

Wider weather episode

Southwest onshore flow pushed showers into the panhandle through Friday the 21st. A weak shortwave trough rotated into the eastern gulf and brought a more organized band of precipitation to the panhandle Friday evening with shower development then continuing behind the shortwave into Saturday. This resulted in approximately a 12 hour period of snowfall along the Klondike Highway.
